Products We Use
Golden Star Retail Cleaning uses TGA-approved, FSANZ-compliant cleaning and sanitising products across all food venue environments, commercial-grade alkaline degreasers for kitchen and floor cleaning, pH-neutral surface-specific products for showroom and retail floors, professional glass cleaning solutions for shopfronts and display cases, and AS 1851-rated products for commercial kitchen exhaust system cleaning. Safety Data Sheets for all products are available on request.
Why Product Selection Matters in Commercial Cleaning
The cleaning products used in a retail or hospitality venue are not a minor operational detail — they are a critical compliance variable that affects food safety, surface integrity, workplace safety, and the effectiveness of the cleaning program itself. Using the wrong product on a food contact surface can leave chemical residue that poses a food safety risk. Using an acidic cleaner on a natural stone floor can permanently etch the surface. Using a high-alkaline cleaner on sealed timber accelerates finish breakdown. Using a standard floor cleaner on a commercial kitchen floor with heavy grease accumulation does nothing — it moves grease around without removing it.
Golden Star Retail Cleaning selects cleaning products specifically for each surface type, each cleaning zone, and each compliance requirement in every venue we service. There is no single all-purpose product that works across a supermarket, a boutique showroom, a restaurant kitchen, and a bakery production area — and we do not pretend otherwise. The product selection is part of the cleaning plan prepared after the site visit and is reviewed when venue requirements change.
Three principles govern every product selection decision at Golden Star:
Product Categories We Use
Golden Star Retail Cleaning uses the following categories of commercial cleaning products across Melbourne retail and hospitality venues. Every category is selected based on the specific cleaning task, the surface type, and the compliance requirements of the venue.
How We Select Products for Your Venue
Product selection at Golden Star is not a generic purchasing decision — it is a site-specific process that happens as part of the cleaning plan preparation after every new client site visit. The following explains how products are selected and managed for each venue.
Site Visit Assessment
During the free site visit, the account manager records every surface type, material, and finish present in the venue — floor finishes, wall materials, display surfaces, equipment types, and food zone classifications. This assessment directly determines the product categories and specific formulations used in the cleaning plan. A restaurant kitchen with a quarry tile floor, a stainless steel benching system, and a gas cooking line requires completely different products from a fashion boutique with polished concrete floors, lacquered MDF shelving, and glass display cases — and Golden Star's product selection reflects this difference at the individual product specification level.
Concentration & Dwell Time Compliance
A product that is applied at the wrong concentration or removed before the required dwell time has elapsed does not work — regardless of the quality of the product itself. All Golden Star cleaning staff are trained on the correct concentration and dwell time for every product used at the venues they clean. For food contact surface sanitisers, this is a FSANZ compliance requirement: sanitising products must be applied at the manufacturer's specified concentration and allowed the specified contact time to achieve the pathogen reduction levels required by FSANZ Standard 3.2.2. Sanitisers applied incorrectly provide no compliance benefit regardless of the product's label claims.
Safety Data Sheet Management
Current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for every cleaning product used at your venue are maintained in the Golden Star SDS register. The SDS register is available to you on request within 24 hours. This serves two compliance purposes: it documents the specific products used at your venue for Food Act 1984 (VIC) compliance review, and it ensures that the chemical information required by WorkSafe Victoria OHS Act 2004 for all hazardous substances used in the workplace is documented and accessible. For council health inspectors requesting product compliance documentation, the SDS register provides the evidence required.
Product Changes & Substitutions
When a product in the Golden Star range is discontinued, reformulated, or replaced with an alternative, the replacement product is assessed for compliance equivalency before being used at any client venue. For food venues, this means confirming that the replacement product maintains FSANZ compliance and equivalent sanitising efficacy. For floor care products, it means confirming compatibility with the surface types at the venue. Clients are notified of any product changes that affect their site-specific cleaning plan. There are no unannounced product substitutions at Golden Star.
- SDS register maintained — Safety Data Sheets for all products, available on request within 24 hours
- Fragrance-free alternatives available — for beauty boutiques, cosmetics retail, and organic food venues where product scent could contaminate the environment
- Allergen control products available — colour-coded cleaning equipment and allergen-zone-specific products for bakeries and food producers with allergen management programs
- No aerosol products near merchandise — all spray products directed onto cloths, never onto surfaces near open merchandise in fashion and beauty retail environments
- Low-VOC sealers used for floor programs — all floor sealer products used in occupied retail environments are low-VOC formulations; venues are adequately ventilated before the next trading day opens
Commercial Equipment We Use
Cleaning products alone do not determine the quality of a cleaning result — the equipment used to apply, agitate, and remove them is equally important. Golden Star Retail Cleaning invests in commercial-grade cleaning equipment that matches the scale and compliance requirements of the Melbourne retail and hospitality venues we service. Consumer-grade or domestic cleaning equipment cannot deliver the standards required in commercial retail and food environments.
Walk-Behind Scrubber-Dryers
Commercial walk-behind scrubber-dryers are the standard floor cleaning machine for supermarkets, shopping centre common areas, restaurant kitchens, and large-format retail stores. These machines simultaneously apply cleaning solution, mechanically scrub the floor surface, and vacuum the dirty water and loosened contamination in a single pass — far more effective than mopping, which moves contamination across the floor rather than removing it. Golden Star's scrubber-dryer fleet includes machines with different pad configurations for different floor types and grease levels, from gentle diamond pads for showroom polished concrete through to aggressive scrubbing pads for heavily soiled commercial kitchen tile floors.
Professional Window Cleaning Systems
Shopfront glass and display window cleaning uses professional rubber-bladed squeegees, microfibre sleeve applicators, and lint-free detailing cloths — the same equipment used by specialist commercial window cleaners, not domestic window cleaning spray-and-wipe products. For high-reach glass and signage above convenient reach, Golden Star uses water-fed pole systems delivering purified (deionised) water through a carbon fibre telescoping pole to a soft brush head. Purified water leaves no mineral residue as it dries, producing a spot-free finish on glass and signage at heights up to 10 metres — compliant with WorkSafe Victoria OHS requirements for working near height without ladders.
Commercial Pressure Washing Equipment
Periodic facade washing, forecourt degreasing, and tile grout deep cleaning for outdoor retail areas uses commercial pressure washing equipment with adjustable temperature and pressure settings. Hot-water pressure washing is significantly more effective than cold-water pressure washing for degreasing commercial surfaces — the hot water breaks down fat and grease deposits that cold-water pressure cannot remove. All pressure washing is performed at settings appropriate to the surface material being cleaned, preventing damage to painted facades, tile grout, or facade cladding.
Microfibre Cleaning Systems
Golden Star uses professional colour-coded microfibre mop and cloth systems across all venue types. Colour coding — separate colour allocations for kitchen zones, bathroom zones, and general retail areas — is a HACCP cross-contamination prevention requirement for food venues. Microfibre cloths used in food contact zones are laundered in dedicated commercial laundry cycles with appropriate temperatures and detergents to maintain hygiene standards between uses. Single-use microfibre options are available for allergen-sensitive food production environments.

Yes — all Golden Star products are selected with the specific merchandise and surface environment of each venue in mind. In fashion boutiques, we use low-fragrance, non-aerosol products applied to cloths rather than directly onto surfaces near garment rails. In beauty and cosmetics boutiques, fragrance-free alternatives are used throughout the store. In jewellery stores, non-reactive glass cleaners safe for proximity to precious metals are used on display cases. In bakeries, all products used in the production environment are FSANZ food-safe formulations. Product selection for your specific venue is confirmed during the free site visit.
Golden Star uses low-VOC formulations for floor sealers and where practical for surface cleaners in occupied retail environments. All drain treatment products use enzyme-based formulations rather than bleach-based chemical approaches, which is both more effective for organic drain maintenance and lower environmental impact. Where an environmentally certified alternative product meets the compliance requirements of the cleaning task — particularly FSANZ sanitisation requirements and commercial degreasing efficacy — it is used in preference to conventional formulations. If your business has specific environmental product preferences or certification requirements, raise them at the site visit and we will confirm which product selections can accommodate those preferences while maintaining compliance performance.
Golden Star does not use bleach-based products as a standard cleaning product in food venues. Bleach (sodium hypochlorite) has specific applications in food safety cleaning but also significant limitations — it is rapidly inactivated by organic matter, corrosive to many surfaces, irritating to staff, and can leave residues that affect food flavour. Golden Star's FSANZ-compliant sanitising products achieve the required pathogen reduction without the surface compatibility and residue limitations of bleach-based products. For specific applications where a council health inspector or food safety auditor has requested bleach-based sanitisation, this can be accommodated — discuss the requirement with your account manager.
